简介:

A century ago, few people in the Chinese countryside could imagine life without an emperor – after all, the imperial system had been in operation since the age of the pharaohs. Yet on October 10, 1911, the bourgeois-democratic revolution, led by Dr Sun Yat-Sen, irrevocably changed the course of Chinese history. The overthrow of Puyi, the last emperor, and with him, the Qing Dynasty, simultaneously ended 2000 years of imperial rule and established Asia's first republic. FIRST REPUBLIC IN ASIA tells the remarkable story of China's First Revolution and of the tumultuous birth of modern China. Using recently unearthed archival footage and previously unpublished photographs, FIRST REPUBLIC IN ASIA presents the first complete picture of China's first revolution.
